Ant Control

North Queenslands warm, humid climate is the perfect breeding ground for ants, allowing them to forage, breed, and expand their colonies year-round. When the wet season arrives, heavy rains flood their nests, forcing entire colonies to seek shelter in the driest, safest place they can find: your home.

Common Ants in North Queensland

Effective treatment starts with correct identification. Different ant species have different diets and behaviours, meaning a one-size-fits-all approach is doomed to fail. Here are some of the usual suspects we find in NQ homes:

  • Black House Ant
  • Coastal Brown Ant
  • Ghost Ant
  • White-Footed House Ant

Pest activity is a reality in Northern Australia, requiring tailored, local expertise. Zamp only uses treatments approved by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).

Our Professional Ant Management Solution

For truly effective, long-lasting results, you need a professional strategy. We don’t just spray the ants you see.

Our approach is built on the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). This means we:

Long-Term Prevention: We provide advice on how to make your home less attractive to ants, helping you prevent future infestations by blocking entry points and removing food and water sources.

Inspect & Identify: We first conduct a thorough inspection of your property to accurately identify the specific ant species causing the problem and locate their nesting sites and entry points.

Targeted Treatment: Based on our findings, we use a tailored combination of advanced control methods. This includes specialised baits that are irresistible to the target species. Worker ants carry this bait back to the nest, sharing it with the entire colony and, most importantly, the queen.

Safe & Authorised Products: Your family’s safety is our top priority. We exclusively use professional-grade treatments that are fully authorised by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) and applied according to strict safety standards.

Why DIY Sprays Don’t Always Work

Grabbing a can of spray from the supermarket might seem like a quick fix, but it rarely solves the problem. Here’s why:

It Only Kills the Foragers: The spray only kills the handful of worker ants you can see. It doesn’t affect the thousands of others—including the queen—hidden safely in the nest.

It Ignores the Root Cause: The ants will simply return once the spray wears off because the invisible pheromone trail they use to navigate is still there.

It Can Make Things Worse: Some sprays can cause a colony to “bud” or fracture, creating multiple new nests and spreading the infestation throughout your home.

Invasive Species

Townsville is on the front line of a battle against several high-threat invasive ants, including the Red Imported Fire Ant, Yellow Crazy Ant, and Electric Ant. These are not just nuisances; they are significant biosecurity threats that can inflict painful, venomous stings and devastate our local environment.

Suspected sightings of these species must be handled by professionals and reported to the authorities. Our licensed technicians are trained to identify these ants and can advise you on the correct steps to take.
