Common Problems We Fix
Aircon Leaking Water Inside?
Water dripping from your split system isn’t normal, and it’s almost always a sign something inside the unit needs attention – usually the drain line or internal tray.
Over time, dust, sludge and mould can block the drain, so instead of flowing outside, water backs up and overflows into your wall or onto the floor. A dirty coil and fan can also cause the unit to ice up and then drop water when it melts.
During a Zamp clean, we flush and unblock the drain line, clean the internal tray, coils and fan, and pressure‑wash the air well so water can flow freely again. If we spot anything that looks like a mechanical fault (like a cracked drain pan or a refrigeration issue), we’ll point it out and recommend you call a licensed air conditioning technician instead of just cleaning.
If your aircon is leaking water inside, turn it off, put a towel down to protect the area and book an inspection and clean. In most cases, a proper deep clean and drain flush fixes the problem before it turns into a bigger repair or wall‑damage job.

Air conditioner smells musty or mouldy?
A musty, dirty‑sock or “wet dog” smell when you turn your aircon on is one of the most common complaints we see in Townsville homes. It usually means there’s mould and bacteria growing on the coils, fan and inside the air well.
North Queensland’s humidity is the perfect breeding ground – each time the unit runs, moisture, dust and skin particles collect inside, and over time they turn into visible mould and that unmistakable smell. Spraying deodoriser at the front grille might mask it for a day, but it doesn’t remove what’s growing inside.
A Zamp clean targets the parts you can’t reach properly yourself. We remove and wash the filters, apply appropriate detergents to the coils, pressure‑wash the cooling fins, blower fan and air well, and flush the drain line to remove sludge and biofilm. This helps reduce mould, improves air quality and cuts down that stale smell when you first switch the unit on.
If you or someone in the home has asthma, allergies or is sensitive to mould, a professional clean is strongly recommended instead of DIY sprays. You still get the benefit of fresher air without harsh chemicals, and we’ll give you tips to help keep the unit dry and cleaner between services.

Split system not blowing cold air?
If your split system is running but not blowing cold air like it used to, a dirty indoor unit can be part of the problem. Dust and grime on the coils and fan reduce airflow and heat exchange, so the system struggles to cool the room and has to run longer to get the same result.
In other cases, a lack of cooling can be a sign of a refrigeration or electrical issue – things like low gas, a faulty fan motor or failing electronics. Those need a licensed air conditioning technician to diagnose and repair, a clean alone won’t fix them.
Our job is to make sure the unit is as clean and efficient as it can be. We wash filters, treat and pressure‑wash the coils and blower fan, clear the air path and flush the drain. After the clean, many customers notice stronger airflow and more consistent cooling.
If, after a thorough clean, the unit still isn’t getting properly cold, we’ll let you know and suggest you book a repair with your preferred air conditioning company. That way you’re not paying for parts or gas on a system that’s simply choked up with dirt.
